Halfway between Florence and Siena, Vignamaggio lies in an uncontaminated landscape of streams, forests and ancient hamlets scattered around the surrounding hills. Vignamaggio is an estate with magnificent gardens, forests and agricultural land that covers more than 400 hectares on the hills between Greve and Panzano in Chianti. The heart of the estate is its Renaissance villa, built in 1300 by the Gherardini family, and surrounded by gardens, rows of cypress trees, vineyards and olive groves. Although the refurbishment of the villa and gardens continues, the newly renovated farmhouses and La Pensione Hotel are ready to welcome you. The fresh style of the décor, walks in the countryside and fragrant forest air evoke a feeling of wellbeing that permeates the entire estate.
Built in the 14th century, the pink villa overlooking the valley has been the beating heart of the estate for over 600 years and was in need of some rest: the villa is currently closed in view of the grand reopening in 2024. We therefore remind you that guided tours of the gardens, cellars and tastings are suspended this year.

DISCOVERAll four hundred hectares of the estate can be explored by walking or running through vineyards, olive orchards and along dirt roads bordered by forests or rows of cypress trees.
Bicycles are available for La Pensione hotel guests to explore the Chianti hills. With its rollercoaster of ups and downs, it is a training ground for the brave.
Restoration work may be preventing you from visiting the villa’s cellars, but you can still enjoy free wine and farm product tasting at our shop in Greve in Chianti: A welcoming little space opening onto the lively town piazza, where you can taste our products, page through a book or buy a gift.
The easy paths on the farm are ideal for family strolls! You will find books on the local fauna and flora on the bookshelves in Case al Prato and La Pensione Hotel reception area, so that you can identify all the birds and animals you will find on your walk.
Both the hotel and farmhouses have swimming pools exclusively for guests staying on the estate.
Vignamaggio falls within a robust ecosystem populated by many local species of animals, insects and plants. During your stay you may see deer and wild boar, but you could also catch a glimpse of a hoopoe, an owl or a fallow deer. Our Cinta Senese pigs and Pyrenean mountain dogs on the farm are not as shy and won't hesitate to venture out to greet you. During acorn season it is rare for them to abandon the woods though. Our pigs have access to over 11 hectares where they forage freely for the forest's most delicious offerings throughout the year.
