It’s that time of the year again! It’s September and our grapes are beautiful, ripe and ready for picking.
Because it’s time to harvest, our Francesco has gathered and presented the estate’s most important varietals, the most historical, those that were rediscovered, and the latest arrivals.
First of all, the Sangiovese, our most prized grape, and historically Chianti and Tuscany’s most predominant: a surprising varietal but at the same time one that is anchored in century-old tradition and from which great wines are made.
The Cabernet Franc follows closely behind, no newcomer to Vignamaggio, it was rediscovered among farm vineyards of over 50 years old. The discovery was made, almost by chance, 30 years ago, salvaged and used as a single varietal wine since then.
The Merlot found perfect growing conditions in Chianti: these grapes make great long-term aging wines, soft, well-rounded and fragrant, with excellent colour.
To end off the red berry pageant, we have the Cabernet Sauvignon, Chianti’s most recent addition and the perfect complement to our Gran Selezione Monna Lisa.
And lastly, the WHITE berry varietals, Chianti’s Malvasia Lunga and the Tuscan Trebbiano: two varietals that are typically destined for appassimento, in the process of making Vinsanto del Chianti Classico, our wine of hospitality and of welcoming.
